Robert Martin, a native of Elkton, Kentucky, is the son of Novice and Izeta Martin, former owners of Martin Funeral Home in Elkton.He graduated magna cum laude from Austin Peay State University in 1979 with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration. He held memberships in Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, Phi Kappa Phi academic honor society, and Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society.
After receiving his Master of Accounting from The University of Alabama in 1980, Robert returned to Austin Peay and was an instructor of accounting for three years. Robert also worked ten years as Accounting Supervisor at International Paper in Hopkinsville. Robert is a Certified Public Accountant and for twelve years was a partner in the CPA firm Kem and Martin, now Kem, Duguid, and Associates. While with Kem and Martin, Robert managed the branch office in Elkton. In 2003, he became the Chief Financial Officer of the City of Hopkinsville and still holds that position today. Robert is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Kentucky Society of CPAs and is a board member of the Kentucky League of Cities.
Robert served two terms as president of the Elkton Rotary Club. Former treasurer of the Hopkinsville Rotary Club he served for eight years. He is a board member of the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County and serves on the Tobacco War Pilgrimage Committee. Robert is a board member of Westwood Senior Homes.
He is lifelong member of Petrie Memorial United Methodist Church in Elkton and has served in a number of positions within the church including treasurer for over seventeen years.
Robert has a love of history and enjoys visiting historic places. He co-authored the book, A Pictorial History of Todd County, Kentucky, in 1992. Robert has restored an 1892 Queen Ann Victorian house in Hopkinsville and enjoys sharing it with family and friends.
